Position Summary
Responsible for helping plan and execute dance classes and performances under direct supervision of the lead dance instructor.
Position Description
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate the following competencies. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and /or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• Minimum of 16 years of age.
• Previous dance experience preferred.
• Prior teaching or working with children ages 3-18 years preferred.
• Must commit to an entire season (Summer, Fall, Winter/Spring) and be able to work evenings.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with teaching dance programs for ages 3 – 18 years. Be prepared to take over (lead) class in the event that the lead instructor is unable to teach last minute.
• Arrive on time (min. 5 minutes early) for respective shifts to ensure that class begins on time.
• Establish and maintain good communication with participants, parents, other staff and supervisor.
• Provide high quality of customer service in a professional manner and with a positive attitude when interacting with patrons, program participants, parents and other staff.
• Set-up and help maintain facility and dance floor.
• Maintain good safety awareness and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
• Follow all Byron Park District policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Wear appropriate attire for the class you are instructing.
• Attend meetings and in-service trainings as required.
• Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position must be able to frequently move about the dance room and demonstrate exercises. Occasionally this position my need to move items weighing up to 25 lbs.


ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
This position will primarily work indoors and may be exposed to dust, odors, cleaning chemicals and varying degrees of temperature and light. This position needs to be aware of hazardous situations which could cause a safety concern for participants, which could include but not limited to: water on the floor, sticky floors due to humidity, items in the dance area, tripping hazards, etc. The noise level of the environment is moderate.


OTHER DEMANDS
This position must be flexible and use good judgment. This position must be able to follow directions, give clear instructions, respond calmly to emergencies and work with minimal supervision. This position may be subject to both positive and negative feedback from parents/guardians and may feel stress while trying to teach clients. This position requires a high level of attention for multiple children at any given time.
