Town of Medley / Public Works Department
($12.50-$19.50 per hour)
I. JOB SUMMARY:
The hired employee will be requested to perform varied and responsible tasks under the supervision of other employees, a foreman, the assistant director, or the director of the Town of Medley Public Works Department. He/she may be trained to maintain and repair Town of Medley equipment, including vehicles and tools. Such job shall include but not be limited to: assisting other employees of the Public Works Department or other departments within the Town that require the needs of a Public Works employee such as building and grounds maintenance, movement of furnishing and materials, setting up Town facilities for various functions, maintenance and/or repair of the Town’s roadways and other facilities, painting buildings and machinery, and any other task that a supervisor reasonably directs the employer to accomplish.
In addition, the laborer shall be assigned other tasks, such as: cutting and maintaining grass; painting fire hydrants; wastewater system and facilities cleaning; and other similar duties.
From time to time, the laborer shall also assist in: the repair of water line breaks, sewer line breaks; stormwater facility damage; and the installation of piping and meters at sites of new construction.
Additionally, the laborer shall be responsible to assist in the cleaning and maintaining of the Public Works Department facilities, vehicles, equipment, meters, parts, and tools.
He/she shall also perform any other tasks, as instructed by any supervising person.
II. MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED:
The laborer will be required to use standard non-powered and powered hand tools generally used in the repair and maintenance of Public Works facilities.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
a. High School Diploma or Equivalent desired.
IV. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
A. State of Florida Driver’s License to be current and in good standing with no convictions for driving a vehicle while under the influence of any intoxicating beverages or drugs (whether legal or illegal), as defined by Florida Statues.
B. Have a CDL Class B Driver’s License which must be current and in good standing as stated above.
C. Experience in operating and driving Heavy Equipment such as front end loaders, back hoes, rollers, digging machines, etc. for a minimum of one (1) year.
D. Certification from various educational institutions indicating completion of courses intended to meet the requirements indicated in the job summary, or equivalent experience.
The hired laborer will be assigned to primarily work out of the Town of Medley’s Public Works Department garage area, but from time to time shall be required to report directly to a job site.
