To provide support for the operations of the adult softball and adult sand volleyball programs. The individual in this capacity has specific duties relative to their job, in addition to, the general rules, policies, procedures, and expectations of the Department.
Although every detail of the day-to-day job may not be included in this job description, the Adult Sports Supervisor will be expected to perform the duties required to administer a successful program that provides a positive experience for the participants. Enthusiasm and communication are key!
Reports to: Recreation Specialist
Age Requirement: Minimum 18 years old
• Have knowledge and understanding of all USA Softball and Independence Township Parks and Recreation rules, Policies and Procedures.
• Have knowledge and understanding of Sand volleyball rules including those adopted by the National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations and published by the United States Volleyball Association along with the League Rules
• Be onsite to supervise league play.
• Handle situations with players, staff, and spectators as they arise.
• Be respectful to the sport and its participants. Treat everyone equally.
• Help with league game schedules, re-scheduling of games, if necessary.
• Provide the Recreation Specialist with daily standings updates and softball information.
• Assist with league and playoff award distribution.
• Attend Managers and Umpires meeting.
• Make phone calls when necessary.
• Supervise Youth Baseball/Softball when needed, in the same scope as adult softball.
• Secure proper hire-in forms for each umpire prior to first scheduled date of work and submit to Recreation Coordinator.
• Supervise all umpire staff for Adult Softball.
• Communicate work schedules for all umpires in case a situation may arise.
• Attend Supervisor Training Meeting and Orientation.
• Obtain Concussion Training Certificate.
• Help the UIC evaluate each umpire with a written evaluation on specific areas that need improvement halfway through the season and at the end of the season.
• Communicate with Recreation Coordinator daily.
• Be visible and “active” on site. Develop a professional relationship with coaches and players. Be approachable.
• Provide Recreation Coordinator with game cards and site supervisor reports.
• Help notify coaches, umpires, personnel of game cancellations, make-up schedules, and any other schedule changes.
• Recreation Specialist has the final say on decisions regarding the adult sports program.
It is mandatory that the Adult Sports Site Supervisor works at least an 8 hour shift on the 1st of July for Independence Fest. The job duty on this day will not reflect the duties of the above supervisor position.
