Position Summary
To provide leadership and oversight for the Aquatics programs at Deer Lake Beach and Spray Park. The individual in this capacity has specific duties relative to their job, in addition to, the general rules, policies, procedures, and expectations of the Department.

Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years of age, have an excellent understanding of the operations at Deer Lake Beach and Spray Park, have the ability to work with children to grow in character, experiences and insights, and have an extensive knowledge of lifeguarding and basic first aid.


Responsibilities
• Responsible for administration of Deer Lake Beach/ Spray Park and overseeing daily beach operations; including Special Events. Works directly with the Recreation Supervisor on a regular basis.
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, 40 hours Monday-Sunday.
• Responsible for pre-season set-up of Deer Lake Beach, including interviews, in-services and pre-season training for lifeguards.
• Responsible for daily/every other day site checks at Deer Lake Beach, Spray Park and Parks and Recreation Office.
• Acts as the liaison with Parks and Recreation Office staff.
• Responsible for scheduling staff at Deer Lake and Spray Park (except for Swim Lessons).
• Responsible for coordinating weekly operational checks, inventory, records and maintenance of:
o O2 Cylinders and AED
o Rescue equipment and first aid supplies
o Weekly water sample test
o Forms, reports, office supplies
o Weekly beach reports and lifeguard reports
o Incident reports
• Coordinating and submitting all paperwork to Jeff Ellis and Associates.
• Maintaining proper signage.
• Responsible for all staff discipline and parent situations, when required.
• Leading weekly supervisor staff meetings and having an agenda prepared.
• Responsible for training, holding in-services, and evaluating all aquatic staff throughout the program and for collecting mid-summer and final evaluations.
o Compiling updated binders with updated Ellis information
o Compiling new trends and data (drowning stats)
o Developing season long training program
o Facilitating the weekly, one hour in-services
o Monitoring, evaluating staff emergency response skills and swimming skills
o Working/developing staff constantly throughout the season
• Responsible for submitting a detailed mid-summer and final program/staff evaluation.
• Responsible for turning in all receipts, keeping a running, detailed budget.
• Responsible for maintaining emergency rescue boat at Deer Lake Beach.
• Responsible for maintaining professionalism among staff at Deer Lake Beach and Spray Park to provide the best customer service possible to our beach patrons and staff.
• Responsible for the end of the season beach cleanup and equipment storage.
• Responsible for completing opening inventory breakdown.
• Responsible for completing season ending inventory.
• Responsible for ensuring “Ellis and Associates Make It Work Handbook” is properly maintained.
• Responsible for maintaining safety at the beach and Spray Park by ensuring all Ellis and Associates Beach operation lifeguard protocols are followed.
• Responsible for periodic in season lifeguard testing and evaluations.
• Responsible to work with Day Camp Director to provide a 2-hour in-service with all Day Camp staff covering Beach procedures, Missing Persons and Buddy Checks.
• Responsible for coordinating swim lesson in-service with Swim Lesson Director and working with swim instructors on fine tuning strokes, especially those teaching more advanced lessons.
• Assist in the planning and staff of the Splash into Summer End of School Party.
• Responsible for helping ensure all COVID-19 safety protocols and procedures are being enforced and followed.



Training
• Work with Recreation Programmer on proper office procedures and policies.
• Be a certified Ellis and Associates lifeguard instructor and trainer.


Communication
• Check in with Recreation Programmer at least every other day.
• Be visible and “active” on site. Be available to your lifeguards and guests.
• Be sure to provide the beach and Spray Park with the proper daily use forms and make sure the binders are up to date and in good working condition.
• Help supervisors update rainout line when there are closures and communicate with Day Camp Staff as necessary.
• Provide a written evaluation at the end of the season.
