Position Summary
To provide support for operations with the aquatics programs at Deer Lake Beach and Spray Park. The individual in this capacity has specific duties relative to their job, in addition to the general rules, policies, procedures and expectationos of the Department.

Although every detail of the day-to-day job may not be included in this job description, the Lifeguard will be expected to perform the duties required to administer a successful summer that provides a positive experience for all participants. Keep in mind; enthusiasm and communication are key!

Reports to: Aquatics Leadership Team (Beach Director, Swim Lesson Director, and Supervisors)


Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years of age, have a general understanding of the operations at Deer Lake Beach and Spray Park, have the ability to work with children to grow in character, experiences and insights, and have basic knowledge of lifeguarding and first aid.


Responsibilities
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
• Be on active lifeguarding duty during daily beach operations at Deer Lake Beach from Memorial Day thru Labor Day.
• Must attend pre-season training and orientation for lifeguards.
• Follow and enforce daily rotation shifts for guards.
• Responsible for checking 02 Cylinders, AED and rescue equipment during opening and closing procedures.
• Responsible for maintaining professionalism from themselves and lifeguards.
• Responsible for documentation of beach and staff incidents.
• Follow “Ellis and Associates Make It Work Handbook” guidelines and protocols as well as Independence Township Parks, Recreation & Seniors Aquatics guidelines and protocols.
• Responsible for receiving a passing grade during in season lifeguard testing and evaluations.
• Responsible for being trained on and being able to properly use the emergency rescue boat.
• Maintain a clean/safe beachfront. This includes but is not limited to: filling in beach holes, fixing rope and buoy positions, removing fecal matter and picking up and changing garbage cans.
• Attend weekly scheduled and emergency scheduled trainings/in-services.
• Responsible for teaching during all three swim lesson sessions, unless excused by the Swim Lesson Director.
• Responsible for attending pre-season training and in season in-services for swim instructors.
• Responsible for completing necessary forms (certificates, course records, attendance sheets, rosters, etc.)
• Responsible for following swim lesson instructor guidelines and instructor manual.
• Responsible for working Splash into Summer End of School Party.
• Responsible for working assigned shifts at the Spray Park.
•Responsible for following all health & safety protocols and procedures.


Training
• Become certified (re-certified) through the Ellis and Associates Lifeguard Training Program provided by the Township.
• Go through orientation and be trained on daily operations for Deer Lake Beach and the Spray Park at Clintonwood Park.


Communication
• Work with the Beach Director on daily and weekly projects.
• Communicate with supervisors or directors of any issues regarding the beach or spray park equipment.

It is mandatory that all employees work at least an 8-hour shift for Independence Fest. The job duty on this day will not reflect the duties of the above position.
