To assist in the leadership and oversight for the Day Camp programs at Bay Court Park and Clintonwood Park. The individual in this capacity has specific duties relative to their job, in addition to, the general rules, policies, procedures, and expectations of the Department.
Although every detail of the day-to-day job may not be included in this job description, the Day Camp Assistant Director will be expected to perform the duties required to support administration that creates a successful summer and provides a positive experience for all participants. Keep in mind; enthusiasm and communication is key!
Reports to: Recreation Supervisor
Positions Reporting to this Position: Day Campt Staff
Must be at least 18 years of age, have a great understanding of the goals and objectives of Day Camp, ability to work with children to grow in character, experiences & insights, and have extensive knowledge of day camp programs and planning.
•
Administrative duties of Day Camp and works directly with the Day Camp Director daily.
•
Supports in supervising all Clintonwood Camps and Bay Court Camp.
•
Primary contact for staff needs at Bay Court Park.
•
Daily site checks, to ensure camps are on task and daily calendars are being followed.
•
Coordinate with the Day Camp Director a schedule of interviews for potential Leaders-In-Training (L.I.T.’s). This also includes ordering staff shirts for all L.I.T.’s.
•
Supervise L.I.T.’s daily (professionalism, personal conduct, camper interactions). Handle any issue/conflict concerning L.I.T.’s.
•
Coordinate all L.I.T schedules and activities. Attend every Leadership Day.
•
Assist in the oversight of Day Camp registration and monitor registration numbers throughout the summer.
•
Assist and handle Staff discipline and parent situations, when required.
•
In the absence of the Day Camp Director, the Assistant Director will:
o
Be a liaison to the Parks and Recreation office staff, check mail and voice mail daily.
o
Monitor all camp newsletters/calendars developed by each supervisor and attend weekly supervisor meetings.
o
Attend Summer part-time and full-time staff meetings.
o
Purchase supplies and materials for camp.
•
Assist in evaluating supervisors and staff throughout the program. Assist in the collection of mid-summer and final evaluations.
•
Assist the Recreation Coordinator and Day Camp Director in planning and presenting all in-services and trainings.
•
First-aid fanny pack distribution and collection at the end of summer.
•
Assist the Day Camp Director in submitting a final program/staff evaluation.
•
Assist in collecting and ordering camper and staff t-shirts and sweatshirts.
•
Assist in the planning and supervision of a camp staff orientation session for staff prior to the start of camp with a specific daily agenda and distributed to all staff.
•
Be able to act as a Day Camp Counselor/ Assistant Supervisor when needed.
•
Be “active” out at camp as often as possible to assist with day-to-day operations.
•
Responsible for enforcing and following all health & safety protocols and procedures.
• Work with Recreation Supervisor and Day Camp Director on proper office procedures and policies.
• CPR and First Aid certification (provided by the Township).
• Be visible and “active” on site. Be available to your staff as much as possible.
• Be sure to provide the camps with the proper daily use forms and make sure the binders are up to date and in good working condition.
• Provide a written evaluation at the end of the season.

It is mandatory that the Day Camp Assistant Director works at least an 8-hour shift for Independence Fest. The job duty on this day will not reflect the duties of the above position.
