This position is an entry level full-time position that is supervised by Independence Fire Department Operations Command Officers. The employee may be assigned, as needed to the paramedic unit or other apparatus as determined by the Shift Commander. Employee will participate as a member of a medical, rescue, and firefighting crew. Employee will also perform station, equipment, and apparatus maintenance tasks and will participate in public education activites.

• OFFT Firefighter I and II Certificate or nationally recognized equivalent (ProBoard), or (IFSAC)
• OFFT Hazmat Operations Certificate or equivalent
• Current AHA - BLS and ACLS Card
• Current EMPCO written test score
• Oral Interview – Date and Time TBD
If a candidate is chosen for employment, he/she will be employed on a probationary status for a period of one year, which may be extended if circumstances deem necessary. The candidate chosen for this position will be required to submit to and pass a post-offer medical exam that will include drug screening prior to employment. Any candidate chosen will be required to successfully pass an approved driving course and an AHA - PALS course within 12 months of employment.

Working Hours: Rotating 24 hour shifts 0800-0800
Wage: $43,122.35 Annually
$4,471.95 Paramedic License Stipend
Annual Leave:
During the first year of employment: One (1) working days
After one year: Seven (7) working days
After six years: Ten (10) working days
After fourteen years: Eleven (11) working days
After seventeen years: Twelve (12) working days
After twenty years: Thirteen (13) working days
After thirty years: Fourteen (14) working days
Sick Leave: 10 Days Annually
Food Allowance: $720 Annually
Insurance: Medical, Dental, Optical, Disability, Life provided as determined by Collective Bargaining Agreement
Pension: Michigan Municipal Employees Retirement System (MERS) B4 benefit level with F55 (25 years) service
